ANIMAL CARE SHELTER MANAGER

Responsible for the effective and efficient operations of the Central Shenandoah Valley Animal Services Center. The candidate must ensure all animals are properly cared for, while also ensuring all animals are humanely and safely handled. Work includes supervision of staff; daily duties related to the control and care of animals housed at the shelter; and ensuring that operations are conducted in compliance with state laws, regulations, and ordinances and that all records and files are accurate and up to date. Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to maintain effective working relationships with localities, outside agencies, and the public. Must have a good knowledge of and interest in the humane treatment of dogs, cats, and other animals; knowledge of the safe handling, methods of feeding, and transferring animals. Requires good knowledge of laws, regulations, and ordinances governing animal shelter operations. Microsoft Office computer skills required. Duty hours will include some evenings, weekend, and/or holiday hours. High school diploma or GED and considerable experience in a field related to or in work involving the care of animals are required. An Associate’s degree in Animal Sciences from an accredited college is preferred. Must have or obtain certification in the use of controlled substance used to medically treat and/or euthanasia animals with 12 months of hire. Valid driver’s license required. AC FACILITY ATTENDANT

Assist with the care of animals and grounds maintenance of the Shenandoah Valley Animal Care Facility. Duties include cleaning the shelter, pens, and cages; feed and water animals, provide bathing and exercising of animals as needed; and with maintenance of facility grounds. Experience with animals in a shelter environment preferred Must have a good knowledge of and interest in dogs, cats, and other animals; knowledge of the safe handling and humane methods of feeding and transferring animals, ability to follow oral and written instructions, and the ability to work effectively with coworkers and the public. Average 20 hours per week which will include some evenings, weekend, and/or holiday hours. Any combination and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and experience in working with and caring for animals preferred. Must possess a valid driver’s license. $10/HR.
