Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) affects cats worldwide. Infected cats receiving supportive medical care and kept in a stress-free, indoor environment can live relatively comfortable lives for many years.  There are no specific signs of FIV infection.  FIV-positive cats are more prone to getting infections such as upper respiratory infections, ringworm and dental disease, but other than that, FIV-positive cats tend to live normal lives and have a normal length of life.

Cats, who are given the FIV vaccine, will also test positive. FIV cannot be transmitted to you, your children, or your dogs.  Cats, who test positive for FIV could live with in a home with other kitties without ever passing the virus, as well. The most common way of spreading FIV is through bite wounds.  If you have cats, who are not fighters, chances are slim for FIV to be transmitted.
